Short answer: Use like-for-like quotes obtained directly from providers for the same details and dates. Published “from” prices or averages cannot predict an individual premium.
What can change the premium
Common rating inputs include age, postcode, vehicle, value, expected mileage, cover duration, claims and convictions, occupation, ownership and the policy structure. Providers do not necessarily use or weight these factors in the same way.
Compare total payable cost
Record the full premium, instalment interest, policy and cancellation fees, excesses and the cost of extending cover. A cheaper premium with a materially higher excess is not the same financial proposition.
Why we do not publish a cheapest list
Live prices are personal, change over time and depend on acceptance. Ranking providers without matching identical risk details would create a false comparison and could imply a personal recommendation.
